"Ambulatory Unit"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Ambulatory Care - Medical Craigavon Area Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I went to the emergency department at around 4pm and wasn’t seen until 3am the next morning. In the waiting area there weren’t even enough seats for everyone so I stood for 6/7 hours so it would be good to see more seating available. There was a consultant from London who was originally from Nigeria who was brilliant, he apologised profusely about my wait and did everything he could to try find out what was wrong with me. He thoroughly explained everything to me and went through all my blood tests with a fine tooth comb to find anything wrong with them.

I was then moved to the ambulatory unit which has been fantastic on all three of my visits. I am given an appointment time and everything always runs smoothly and efficiently, it is really gold star treatment in here. The Sister McVeigh is really good. The first time I came in she explained everything to me and settled me down. The when I came back she came over to me again and said she’d try chase up my referrals. It is really appreciated that she would go the extra mile. Also, the lady in here who brings tea and biscuits is excellent and always checks up on you. It feels really safe regarding covid, the plastic sheets up as well as the blue curtains really add to it. I am always seen quickly by consultant Dr Stewart who is great and very honest, he makes me feel reassured and makes realistic promises not false ones.

Good evening Rhiyj26,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story via care opinion.

Unfortunately, our department has been under extreme pressures and this has meant long delays for lots of patients. With so many patients in the same boat, with the long waiting times, we have sourced and ordered new chairs, so hopefully these will arrive soon and make the wait a little more bearable.

I am pleased to read that when you eventually got seen that you had a positive experience. I will make sure and share you story with the team, it makes a huge difference and keeps us smiling.

Kind regards,

Lisa
