"Disappointing…"

About: Friarage Hospital Site

I arrived at 11AM as the letter stated for my surgery and was told there will be a SLIGHT wait. Well the wait turned into a 5 hour wait baring in mind i have been nil by mouth since the day before and only having a sip of water on the morning so at around 4pm i was shaking probably with dehydration that i mentioned to the nurses on the ward which replied ‘it won’t be long you are next’. This was at 3pm.

I then phoned my husband in tears as i was so fed up and he phoned the ward i was on and got more information out of them than i could and i was the patient!

At around 4.30, the theatre manager comes in and proceeded to tell me my surgery has been cancelled due to not enough theatre time and the anesthetiser had to leave and go down the road for half an hour whatever that means? and there was a complicated case before mine.

I’m absolutely disgusted in the way i have been dealt with. I live in middlesbrough so it was a 40 minute drive there and back for no reason at all.

Why didn’t they tell me earlier that it was cancelled why wait until last minute to tell me? I mean the theatre manager and anaesthetist manager couldn’t of been nicer, but it’s not the point. I was worried sick all day about this surgery for it to be cancelled after 5 hours of me waiting?!

Very disappointed as i’ve heard great things about this hospital.
