My granddad was admitted to hospital after a fall, he had fractured his hip and required a partial replacement. The operation was successful, however he developed an infection and was taken back into the operating theatre to have the infection 'washed through', after his return to the ward things went down hill.
I feel that the night staff at Sandwell Hospital on Newtown 3 did not take proper care of him. Refused to take my grandad's bed pans and when he wet the bed a staff member raised their voice at him, and left him there in wet urinated bedsheets and did not wipe him up after these incidents had happened. The same staff member on at least 3 occasions has not administered his medication, which is vital for his pre-existing conditions. They have not supported him when he requested help getting a drink, making a phone call, or requesting assistance for the toilet, often ignore him when he asks, saying they will attend in a minute but do not return for at least 1 hour. One staff has been rude towards him and has been excessively heavy handed when undertaking vital checks and LTF tests.
This has made my grandad fearful of being in hospital and being left in the care of the night staff.
The day staff and consultants tending to my grandad were supportive with my grandad and us his family, especially as he is now at end of life.
"They have not supported him"
