"My hospital experience"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Emergency Department Daisy Hill Hospital / Female Medical Daisy Hill Hospital / High Dependency Unit (HDU) Northern Ireland Ambulance Service / Emergency ambulance response

(as the patient),

My hospital experience began with an ambulance to Craigavon Area Hospital following a fall at home.  The ambulance staff were all very good & provided excellent care.

Craigavon's Emergency Department was of course very busy however the staff who looked after me were all excellent - very caring and kind.

I was then transferred to Daisy Hill Hospital where I have spent the last couple of months.  It feels like I have been moved between every ward at this stage. However, my stay began in the High Dependency Unit - however I was that ill I honestly cannot remember much about it, however what I do remember is that I was well looked after.

Moving on to the female medical ward my experience has been good here too. It has honestly been the busiest ward I have been on yet- so well done to all the tirelessly working staff.  The facilities on the ward have all been good as well - I really could not say anything bad about them.

There is one member of staff up on female medical that I would particularly like to mention and that is the night nurse Joe.  From what I have seen he is honestly the hardest working person I have seen.  During the night when there were only two people on he worked so very hard working through all the patients - he is really very excellent.

My only suggestion when it comes to making an improvement would be with regards to the delivery of dirty washing to family members during the periods of no visiting due to COVID-19.  I have found that sometimes the clean clothes have been brought down to a family member to be washed rather than the dirty washing which is then left on the ward.  This has happened to me on a couple of occasions now.  I feel that it is not a great system and it really needs improvement, especially when the staff are all so busy and too rushed to check properly.  So just to make staff aware to check they are bringing down the right clothes would be great.

Overall, my stay has been a good one and I have no other improvements to give. Keep up the good work!

Good evening augusttw67

Thank you for taking the time to thank our staff for their treatment of you after your recent fall. I am sure this was a very frightening experience for you and I am so pleased your care seems to have exceeded your expectation.

It is very encouraging and is a huge boost to morale to hear positive feedback about your treatment and care. I would love to share your compliment with the staff involved however would need a few extra details. If you would be prepared to discuss this please contact me on amanda.sweetlove@nias.hscni.net

I hope you are recuperating well and enjoy a full and speedy recovery.

Take care

Amanda

Good Morning Augusttw67,

Thank you for your feedback regarding your time through the Emergency Department in CAH.

It is so refreshing to see that although the department was busy you still received excellent care.

I hope you continue to improve in the comforts of your own home.
