After experiencing symptoms of diabetic ketoacidosis I went to the a& e department of Victoria hospital on Sunday evening as I knew my condition could worsen quickly and become potentially fatal. I was seen promptly and the charge nurse Esther got me on IV fluids and insulin without hesitation. She was friendly and reassuring which helped settle my nerves as although I had never experienced DKA before I understood the severity of it. The doctor, Rory who was on shift was also so very positive, reassuring and had such a lovely bed side nature, making the short time I spent in the a& e department very comfortable. I believe it was the hasty actions of all staff involved in my care which allowed my condition to stabilise quickly and avoid being admitted to the hospital overnight.
