"Equipment forgotten to be removed"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / General Surgery

(as the patient),

Stayed a night in dgri after a planned operation on ward B3, staff were great, but the ward was very under-staffed. I normally take medication at night, this was not administered as requested. I was supposed to be getting my catheter and morphine pump removed first thing in the morning, which nursing staff forgot about and I felt they became agitated with me for not getting out of bed (how can I move about my room if I'm hooked up to two different types of equipment).

Twice I heard the staff complaining about the fact I hadn't got out of bed, because my room was needed for another patient. Again, how can I get myself organized, if no one has been in to remove the equipment I'm hooked up to?

Dear nanook78,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us and I am so sorry that it was not the experience of care from NHS Dumfries & Galloway that you expected or deserved to have. I am delighted to hear that in the main the staff were great, and with regards to the ward being under staffed, please accept my assurances that we do all we can to ensure that there is a safe level of staffing within our wards.

I would love to be able to discuss this further with you and would encourage you to contact the Patient Experience Team at dg.dgpatientexperience.nhs.scot.

I will pass on your comments to the area concerned, and I have no doubt that they will be disappointed to hear that you did not have a good experience while under their care.

Thank you again for taking the time to connect with us, and I would urge you to contact the Experience Team as soon as you can.

I wish you a speedy recovery,

Kind regards

Alexis
