"Will think of every reason not to treat you"

About: Bradford Student Health Service

I transferred here with multiple chronic conditions. I take tramadol for pain, on the recommendation of a pain specialist. Previous GP was fine, put it on repeat. Here, every time I have to have an appt to discuss it, and they're always trying to take me off it, insinuating I'm lying about my pain. Had to get the specialist letter myself to prove I was meant to have it. Also, if you have a weight issue, they will make it their mission to give you as little help as possible, because they think you can just eat less and magically be thin. Will assume that everything is because you're fat, then refuse to refer you anywhere to help with your weight. Clearly just a scapegoat they use to avoid helping you. A&E give you pain medicine and say "here's 10 days worth, if you're still in pain, ask your GP, they will give you more". Nope! They'll find any possible reason to take it away. I even told the A&E staff that I knew that would happen. It did. I got to the point of begging them for weight loss help, because if I won't get any real treatment until I'm thin enough for their standard, and I can't lose weight on my own, then I need the help. Finally, after months of begging for help, they said they'd "check if they're allowed to" refer me for help with my weight. A week later, I call to ask if the referral was made. Apparently the receptionist hasn't even looked at the paperwork yet. Don't see the point in living any more to be honest, when even the doctors don't see the point in helping you. So remember, if you're overweight, don't even bother asking for help. You may as well just roll around in the mud. Probably get more benefit from it.

One nurse actually cared, talked to me about the issue, and tried to fast track me to see the doctor. She reassured me that she could see something was wrong that needed addressing, and it's not just my weight. Well, tough luck, doctor thinks I'm just a fat liar. Strong words, but true. Getting an appointment is rough. Let's hope that you will be ok to wait 1-2 weeks before even talking to someone on the phone! That's the soonest you'll get to see a doctor.

In summary, don't bother going if your BMI is higher than they want. They'll just say you're fat, and losing weight will fix everything, but will do nothing to help you achieve that goal.
