"Good and bad experience on chemotherapy ward"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - City Campus / Oncology

(as a parent/guardian),

The initial experience was most distressing and upsetting. The staff member who collected us from the waiting area and put in the canula (drip) didn’t greet us or introduce themselves, didn’t tell us what they were doing and what would happen next.

They were direct and lacked compassion in their tone of voice. They were rough when handling, impatient and clearly frustrated when we started to ask questions as a direct response to what they were doing.

Today was our son's first chemo session, he was apprehensive, even a little scared. This staff member made this situation and how he felt much worse. Please take this feedback as an opportunity to improve, we wouldn’t want others to have a repeat.

After this upsetting experience the nursing team were exceptional. Kind, compassionate, caring, informative, thorough, reassuring - just the best. Our main nurse was Fadiaz, she was perfect, listened to our concerns and worries, she went out of her way to help us. We could not have asked for more.

Thank you very much.
