In 6/21 I went into Craigavon hospital to give birth I was admitted to MLU and the midwife I had was amazing. I had to be transferred to the delivery suite and the staff downstairs were quite the opposite. I have severe hearing loss, wear 2 hearing aids and lip read. This was all in my green notes yet no member of staff wore a visor or removed their mask to talk to me.
My husband explained to each of them about my situation but they continued to talk amongst themselves with their masks on and backs turned to me. I had a very traumatic labour/delivery, had to be taken to theatre and the lack of communication between the staff and myself made the situation even worse. I am hoping my writing this may change the way staff treat patients with hearing loss differently in the future.
