In my recent pregnancy I was looked after by the 'violet team' - a pilot community team to look after Mums with continuity of care for their whole pregnancy journey. I was given excellent care by my midwife Daisy throughout, I felt she really got to know me and fully understood my concerns for labour after a previous minor complication, and she took time to talk things through such that I felt really confident for the delivery. Daisy was also really good with my older kids by involving them in the examinations during home visits and letting them listen into the baby's heart beat.
Although Daisy wasn't on-call when I went into labour, it made such a difference to my confidence knowing that her colleague Claire already knew my birth plan when I arrived at the midwives unit. It was lovely having the continuity of Claire visiting me at home after the birth too as she had been through labour alongside me and knew exactly what had happened and to follow up on.
Compared to my previous two pregnancies, I thought the new pilot team worked extremely well and provided much better person centred care with great continuity. I hope that this is able to be rolled out to other areas for all Mums to benefit from.
