"Back to square one"

About: Sheffield treatment and recovery team / substance misuse

(as a service user),

I got locked up for having a mental breakdown and the police found a lot of alcohol in my system, I didn't think I had a problem and have been drinking for about 14 years, the police thought I needed help and put me on an order with the Alcohol services in Sheffield.   Throughout Covid I have never once seen a doctor or had a face to face appointment, no checks have been made to check on my mental health or how I am feeling.   The service ended and I am back on the drink, I rang the services again and was told I will receive a telephone appointment.   This is a waste of time, my mental health is not good, they cannot see how I am over the telephone.   I feel that I need to go to prison to get help.   Nothing is in place for me and I am back at square one.

I am sorry to hear about your recent experience. The Alcohol Service provided at Sidney Street can provide face to face appointments where required, but did move to a largely telephone appointment service in order to protect service users and staff during the pandemic.

Can I ask that you email on sct-ctr.fitzwilliamcentrereferrals@nhs.net and ask that your email is passed to Sid Wiffen, so that I can look into how we can respond and best support you at this current time.

Yours sincerely,

Sid Wiffen

Service Manager
