"Problems which could have easily been fixed"

About: Maternity care / 2 West Maternity

(as the patient),

This is my second time back on 2 West since I gave birth last week. After having a major operation C-section and a blood transfusion I was not feeling myself and was rather tired and sore. I found it challenging to even move from bed to chair so taking a shower seemed like a massive task too soon.

The midwife insisted even though I was struggling to walk which I wasn't happy about. I was then left in shower room feeling faint after my shower and the midwife who was with me had left at this stage, I waited until the ward sister then found me to help me back to bed.

I felt at times one midwife in particular was cheeky to me and didn't need to be I told the sister in charge and she apologised to me for this. When I was first on 2 West my buzzer did not work as it took 4 presses of the button to register and when the midwife came to me she said I was pressing on the buzzer as if my baby had fallen out of the cot and I needed urgent attention, however it was merely because my buzzer did not function properly.

The second time I was back on 2 West again I was placed into a room where the buzzer again does not work so I am disappointed this is the case 2 weeks later still. I felt left in such a state after this and after just giving birth it was difficult and I couldn't even speak to my own mother on the phone as I just didn't feel up for it. My mother rang the ward to complain and she also felt like the midwife on the phone was cheeky to her too. I felt insulted. I was in agony and they didn't understand. They were rather ignorant to problems which could have been easily fixed. I feel after voicing to the head midwife nothing improved.

Many thanks for taking the time to respond, we do welcome all feedback to help us improve the service we offer. I am disappointed to read of your experience and I am extremely sorry that you felt the midwife was cheeky, this is not the standard of service we wish to offer.

I am sorry that you felt the midwives did not listen to you and that you felt their attitude towards you and your mother were inappropriate, your experience will be feed back to staff as we expect all our staff to treat all service users with the upmost dignity and respect.

Thank you for highlighting your concerns regarding the buzzer system, I will investigate this further to ensure this is addressed urgently.

Kind regards

Mary Dawson
