"My husband is really struggling"

About: University Hospital Ayr / Geriatric Assessment

(as a carer),

My husband has Parkinson's disease and sees the Parkinson's specialists nurses regularly, it's been about 2 years since he has seen his consultant and we appreciate the problems with covid, his condition is progressing and his medication is not lasting as it did.

I telephoned the service for advice, a staff member came out to the house to visit my husband and saw him at his worst and said they would ask the doctor to see him at clinic. We did previously have an appointment for May but it was cancelled.

My husband is really struggling now .

I had a telephone call this morning from the staff member who visited saying the doctor will not see him as they believe that low mood and depression is the problem. Admittedly that was the case a few years ago as our son had passed away, but not the case now.

We now left in a difficult position of not knowing when or if he will see a consultant again, in my husband's words, he said "am I just being left to die?"

Whatever happened to patient care. What kind of service is this?
