"Poor breastfeeding advice"

About: Wycombe Hospital / Maternity

(as a service user),

I attended the Wycombe birth centre for my baby's 5-day check-up The member of staff completed my baby's observations without issue, but I also mentioned that I was having some difficulties with breastfeeding. I was surprised when they immediately recommended a specific and very expensive brand of pump, without even further exploring the difficulties I was having. This recommendation was based on having a family member who had used this pump, rather than any kind of clinical indications. I was also given contradictory advice around timings of feedings, compared to another member of staff who I had spoken to yesterday when I called specifically about breastfeeding advice.

Dear Madam

Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments on this website.

I am sorry to read of the conflicting information you have received from staff about breastfeeding.

I would advise that you try to talk to someone again (perhaps ask to talk to the doctor?) if you have further problems or questions, and describe to them the information you have received for confirmation.

In the meantime I would be very grateful if you could contact the Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) on 01296 316042 to talk about your specific experience, and to see how we may be able to assist you at this time.

Kind regards

Anthony Banton
