I was very impressed by the vaccination service experienced by my (high-functioning) autistic daughter at the Octagon centre today. The volunteers on the door, the administrators and nurses couldn't have been more accommodating in regard to making 'reasonable adjustments' to minimize my daughter's stress and anxiety. This included allowing me to stay with her throughout the process and fast tracking her to avoid a long and stressful wait. Everyone was incredibly friendly and went out of their way to put her at ease which was greatly appreciated.
Autism can appear 'invisible' but still have huge and debilitating impacts on those affected. It was so refreshing not to have to push for or justify basic adjustments but instead be offered support freely and without fuss by helpful and compassionate staff. Well done to all those NHS volunteers and professionals involved in this service and thank you for your understanding and kindness. My daughter now feels much more confident about her second jab!
