Mum has Alzheimer’s. ECG letter arrived approximately 6 weeks in advance of appointment. Every single day since mum got herself ready to attend and was constantly on the phone to me asking when I’d be coming round to pick her up. She couldn’t remember when we told her it wasn’t for weeks yet. When we started to get phone calls every few hours things were becoming difficult and we still had 3 weeks to go! I contacted the cardiology dept this morning, told my story, asked if they could help by bringing her appointment forward and was delighted to be offered an appointment for 4 o’clock today. The staff were great. Understanding, compassionate, gentle and good humoured. Mum enjoyed her trip out and I’m hoping for closure regarding daily calls about her appointment. Well done Hairmyres Cardiology dept, you certainly provided person centred care for mum and her frazzled family. A huge ‘thank you’.
"Excellent person centred care"
