"Failure to provide a basic duty of care"

About: Highcroft Surgery

In my previous complaint, I detailed my experience with Highcroft when I had a suspected infection, following a LLETZ procedure I had at City Hospital. I handed in my swab test to Highcroft on the 7th June, it is now the 16th June and I hadn't heard back about my swab test until now. I rang Highcroft this morning and was told that the results had in fact come back, and there was no further action required. The receptionist I spoke to last week told me that I would be contacted about the results, and not to phone until today. So why didn't anyone ring me? I was prescribed antibiotics on the 9th June, which have cleared up my symptoms of infection vastly. I am concerned that the swab results came back as 'no further action required', yet I was enduring unpleasant symptoms that suggested otherwise. Highcroft were supposed to phone me back after prescribing the medication last week, which also never happened. There is a huge gap in providing a basic duty of care for patients, not to mention a lack of compassion for what women like me are experiencing after such an intimate and painful procedure. I will be looking to register elsewhere, as I am tired of chasing medical professionals and being told to simply go elsewhere for a service that this GP should have provided in the first place.

Dear Anonymous,

Thank you for the comment and we apologise for the experience you had when contacting the Surgery. The usual practice followed by us & many GP practices is the country is that only when the results are abnormal then the GP practice contacts the patient to discuss further management plan. Results are also available online if patient is registered for online access. Its not very clear from your comment about the discussion you have had with the receptionist and it would very helpful if you can contact us directly to discuss this further if that's ok. Our doors are fully open now with no intercom use restriction.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Management team
