"It controlled my life"

About: Change Grow Live Cambridgeshire

(as a service user),

I have been a heavy habitual user of cocaine to the the point it controlled my life my ability to have a choice of anything but using.  It consumed my life, I still managed to function which made it worse as I would use my dependence as a reason to make life seem normal and reward myself for getting through the day by snorting in the evenings. It was a revolving door of emptiness, deceit, lies and concocting anything that didn’t rely on using.

I looked online for help many times but couldn’t find anyone to reach out to I was looking but stilll encapsulated with my addiction.

Finally I admitted my addiction to my GP it was a feeling of huge relief to finally admit to someone I was in huge trouble and my life was out of control. My GP referred me to CGL, the service was fluid whilst it was daunting I went through the enrolment happy in the knowledge I had finally admitted I had a major problem.

I took a call from Gavin initially finally I talked to someone who not only got me, but understood where I was, I had help.. Gavin has been a huge help in my ongoing challenge which has and still is Rocky.  His words commitment dedication and understanding have hugely helped and I cannot thank him enough, without Gavin I would not be writing this now and writing this assists with my recovery.

Gavin is still in touch with me as I write.. I also had a very good 18 week programme with Elly processing foundations of growth, extremely insightful, thought provoking and delivered articulately in a fun way by Elly for this I thank her as it kept me on a clear path to abstinence.

Hi octansqq64

I love this response as it takes us through your journey both emotionally and practically. saying you have an issue is of course the first step and you have taken that and a few more to follow.

Firstly, I want to say that I am so pleased your GP pointed you in the correct direction. This is not always the case and we continue to work hard on this. Once you arrived within our service we rely on our wonderful staff and it seems that Gavin has been great for you. The other structured part of the programme is the Foundations you attended with Ellie. That programme is available at every CGL service across the country.. I would like also to say that there is support after treatment. Look up Cambridgeshire Recovery Service. They are part of CGL and provide lots of ongoing support.

Thanks

Paul
