Last week I had problems due to a bleeding gastric ulcer and had to go to A&E.
The quality of the care I received was excellent, I had both a colonscopy and endoscopy operations performed. All the staff where friendly and often went out of their way to be helpful in various ways. The catering staff had a hard time tracking what I could and couldn't eat, whether I was on liquids, solids or nil by mouth. It changed each day I was there. They were helpful and kind and often put up with me saying I shouldn't eat things, that were probably perfectly fine to eat but would go out of their way to make sure I got something. The nurses made me feel well cared for, they were all very friendly and would often go out of their way to help, one even put up with me getting a little paranoid and making their job a harder that day. The niceness and caring attitude is present at all levels of experience from the student nurses to the Sisters, they answered questions and made me feel they cared about making my stay as pleasant as it could be. I don't really have the words for how grateful I am to them. They manage this even though they are rushed off their feet, the job is more a calling for those that work there to help people. I hope they feel proud of the work they do, they are making peoples lives better not only physically but mentally as well, I was surprised in the best possible way, at the level of kindness and compassion shown by everyone. Thank you so much <3The surgeons who are often portrayed as uncaring on TV, weren't uncaring. They were friendly and caring. During my endoscopy I couldn't even manage to get the throat spray, my guess is a mental block from the last endoscopy I had (I have bad memories of that), they were patient with me, and eventually had to put me fully under to perform the procedure, They didn't make me feel guilty or anything about not being able to do this, and I'm glad I was put under for it. After the operation, they informed me of my progress daily and why they were doing the things they did and on the day I was discharged , they even wrote down for me some of the meds I can't take anymore and answered my diet questions about what I can and couldn't eat.And most importantly everyone put up with my dad jokes without complaint!
