Hilton Main Ward
Cannock Chase District Hospital
For the attention of Ward Manager – Gill Black.
Dear Gill,
Praise for your Staff.
I’d like to say how much gratitude I feel and a very big thank you to your staff whilst looking after my wife during her long term stay in your ward.
She is very precious to me and knowing she has been well looked after in a ‘second to none’ way, I cannot thank you enough. My wife speaks so highly of every member of staff who cared for her, of their professionalism, their care, their humour and the way they kept her spirits up.
Having been a Ward Manager herself, my wife cannot fault the caring and professionalism of all members and would have been honoured to have anyone of them under her leadership. Please believe me; she would never have tolerated tardiness or slacking from any member of her staff whilst in post. Indeed, she demanded only the highest standards. It was a running joke with her staff that they knew when she was not pleased, if she turned up on the ward at the start of a shift with her ‘lippy on’ (lipstick). Although she ran a ‘tight ship, ’ she was a fair leader and respect flowed both ways. She is, in my opinion as I’ve known her for 26 years, the ultimate ‘Role Model’ as a nurse.
I sincerely hope that everyone who cared for my wife reads this letter as a fitting tribute to all as individuals. Keep on your exceptionally good work under the difficult pressures so apparent with the problems facing the medical profession in this day and age.
My wife experienced a quiet, relaxing atmosphere and created good relationships with staff and patients alike.
In view of these difficult times you should be proud of your grossly overstretched staff who exert ‘that little bit extra’ to help and comfort the patients’ needs.
Please feel free to show this letter to anyone who questions or disagrees with your standard of patient care on your ward.
Yours sincerely,
A very grateful husband
