"A boy who felt off his bike without the helmet"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Accident & Emergency Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Paediatric surgery ( Wards 3A & 3B) Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Paediatrics Major Trauma team

(as a parent/guardian),

My son had a head injury after falling from his bmx and after getting home he diagnosed a fractured collar bone for himself.

The situation became more than serious when in the early morning I found him in his bed unresponsive and gurgling. This was the longest morning ever.

An emergency transfer to RHC and neurosurgery followed shortly after we reached DGRI.

After 5 days we spent in RHC Glasgow, my son walked back into his home.

Every member of the Wards (Nr1A and Nr3A) from the receptionist at the entrance that guided me to the Ward No1A to the number of doctors, including the surgeons, that came and spoke to me and my son, the muliple nurses that were constantly checking on my son, taking blood and BP readings and bringing the coffee and meals for us were a testament to the wonderful service.

We were very lucky as we got the best haircut from the best surgeon - MrR OKane -Thank you very much. We are still laughing from your jokes: )

Lynsay -your energy and help is very appreciated and valued, especially when we look back at when we came lost in this situation -you are a star!

The consultants, doctors and the staff at the Ward 1A and 3A -there are too many names to remember even if I tried to write them down. Every person was kind and compassionate, taking time to explain us everything speaking to us as a person not 'a patient'.

I want to express my sincere gratitude for the kindness, thoroughness and exemplary care that my son received at RHC.

Kind regards,

Dear marsdy49

What a horrendous frightful experience for not only your son but also for you and your family, this makes our thanks to you for posting such a thoughtful message even more poignant.

It sounds from what you have said that your transfer to RHC happened quickly and we were able to get your son the essential care and treatment as soon as we were able too.

It was really heart-warming to read that our team kept you up to date with your sons progress as well as attending regularly to his cares and keeping you supplied with the very much needed coffee!

Mr O'Kane is indeed a very nifty hairdresser as well as an exceptional neurosurgeon - and I agree on the jokes - he had me laughing in the coffee queue today. We'll make sure he sees your feedback alongside our senior management teams own personal thanks.

Lynsay and her trauma colleagues are fantastic - we feel privileged to have them as part of our team. Lynsay is a superstar and I can share that on the back of your post our Chief Nurse has passed on her thanks also.

We have also passed on not only your comments but also our own thanks to the fabulous Ward 1A and 3A teams. They really do go above and beyond and your testament demonstrates that to us again.

It is always a pleasure when we are allowed to care for a child or young person and their family, and we are humbled by your kind and thoughtful words towards our teams and our services. You have brought a smile to many a face this afternoon.

We sincerely hope your son is now recovering well at home and that he will soon be back out safely playing with his friends.

Once again thank you so much for taking the time to feedback to us.

Sending best wishes to you and your family

Take care

Coral
