I had been vomiting and had severe stomach pain for 4 days. Called 111 on 2nd day advised calling GP. Clinician from surgery visited, took temperature etc. and blood. Temp high. Advised buying Dioralyte because of dehydration. Condition worse by day 3, phoned surgery, prescribed Buccastem sickness tablets. Condition worse by day 4, asked doctor to visit. GP visited and phoned for ambulance.
Ambulance men told to bypass A & E and go straight to surgical. Taken to department, no room, sent to A & E, no cubicle sent back to department. No room sent back to A & E. Waited in corridor in wheelchair. After 1 hour finally found resuscitation cubicle. After examination etc taken to a ward. Unable to have CAT scan, too late. Very poorly, waited until late next afternoon to have CAT scan. Consultant came immediately with results if scan. Twisted bowel, had emergency surgery immediately.
Taken to HDU after operation. Dreadful experience for 24 hrs. Staff spoke in a negative way about others, very unprofessional Begged to go back to ward. Eventually taken back to ward late afternoon Friday.
Experience on ward much better. Discharged on Sunday afternoon before seeing a physiotherapist just given a brief 6 page pamphlet on 'abdominal surgery'.
Glad to get home to rest and recover. No follow up appointment just told to have staples out 10 days after surgery.
