"REVIEW OF POOR PROVISION FOR MENTAL HEALTH…"

My wife has been under considerable emotional and physical stress for some time - she reached out to the Crisis Team hoping for help - in all honesty, I could not have left her there - all they want to do do is call the police and get people sectioned just because they're not coping . We were given three days to "accept" help from the staff who just appeared rude and uncaring and wanted to give her Valium which is like giving peanuts to a very large elephant - when people are distressed, they need help , they do not need threats , they do not need clockwatchers who knock off early cause its Sunday - I have long said that the MNHS is unfit for purpose - I am unsurprised the suicide rate in Scarborough is so high - and with two psychiatrists , one who only works part time and the other ho whispers rather than talks ( my wife is quite deaf now sadly) , to care for a population of 108,000 in the Scarborough Area , It is unlikely to improve any time soon .I would rather sell my house and everything else I owned of any value , and pay for decent care than entrust the well-being of someone I love to Mental Health Services in this town . The CQC constantly report the current services at Cross Lane Hospital as inadequate and I assume that goes for the rest or Tees and Esk Valley too ? My wife hit the nail on the head even in her distressed state - she didn't trust them .

We are extremely sorry to hear of this experience when trying to get help for your wife. We take all aspects of feedback back to the team for them to reflect and learn from. It is our standard that anyone who is referred to Crisis Team is offered a 3 day intense assessment and then we would formulate the next steps with the individual and their family. In some situations it is important to outline the possible options when we assess anyone with high risk and significant mental health needs, some of that explanation may include the options to support at home with an intense package of care, to admit to an acute admission ward which may be as an informal patient or in times where the risk is high and the symptoms cannot be managed at home, and the person does not see the need for admission then a formal admission would be applied for. In all of these instances it is expected that the person and their family are at the centre of all the decision making and feel part of this. We are sorry that we failed to do this, and left both you and your wife feeling this way. We would like to thank you for taking the time to offer your experiences and allow us the opportunity to discuss with the team and feedback this. If you would like to discuss this further then we would welcome the opportunity with you
