"Holistic approach GOLD STANDARD"

About: Hinchingbrooke Hospital

My recent experience of the gynaecology department at Hinchingbrooke hospital could not have been better. Years ago, I trained as a mental health nurse at the University of Hertfordshire. The holistic approach and person-centred care was revered at the 'gold standard' in first class care. The holistic approach is not just a collection of 'buzz'words but an approach that aids recovery and enhances feelings of well-being in the recovering patient. I was diagnosed with a 20 cms ovarian cyst/mass. As a 48 year women, the perception may have been that I had emotionally and physically come to the end of my reproductive life. However, for me that was not the case. I had my only child later in life at 41 years old. I believe in science and the progress made in reproductive medicine over past years. Many women of my age would have maybe considered the removal of both ovaries and their womb having completed their families. The surgeon who performed my surgery and his team understood that I required a much more conservative surgery. Due to the nature of my surgery general anesthesia was recommended. Knowing the benefits of both general and local anaesthesia I requested a local anaesthesia. The surgeon referred my case to a female consultant anaesthetist. She agreed to a local anaesthetic, devised a plan to accommodate this. All went to plan. The surgical team all kind and highly skilled, professionals delivered a successful outcome. I am very grateful to them hence I am compelled to write this review. A special mention to the female consultant anaesthetist and her team. She is the reason I made a very speedy recovery after surgery. My enhanced feelings of well-being considerably aided my recovery. Over 72 hours from the surgery and I am well, in no pain, back with my son and in awe of the amazing care I have received. So again THANK YOU!
