"We have been let down"

I have never really had any negative things to say about this practise but after a number of failings over the last year this incident has lost all my faith in the surgery. My young son had an extremely high temperature and was showing signs of being seriously ill. I had tried to treat him at home and it wasn’t working so I knew he needed antibiotics and I suspected he had tonsillitis. After speaking to an extremely rude receptionist who tried to refuse me access to a doctor I spoke to a lovely dr who explained they couldn’t see my son without a negative Covid test, checked I had one and said to call back with the result. This was done early morning. I then heard nothing until after 3 when I got a text to say we hadn’t done the correct Covid test and they still wouldn’t see him. I immediately called the surgery but was not spoken to until 5.30 when they said the hot hub would be closed and no one would be able to see my son. I complained and they managed to get an out of hours dr from the hot hub to call me back (6pm by this point). She was extremely concerned that my son was showing signs of sepsis and instructed to take him straight to burton a&e. My son got to hospital and wasn’t seen until midnight due to an extremely poorly baby needing treatment first (understandable). They diagnosed him immediately with tonsillitis and prescribed antibiotics which started working the next day. If a dr had seen us or prescribed antibiotics as requested there would of been less demand on the a&e services and less stress on my small child who was at this point extremely distressed. Measham this is not the first time you have refused to help myself or my family during the Covid pandemic and required us to visit hospitals in order to be treated, when you could of sorted the issue! As a parent I am now very reluctant to bring my children to you when they are in need of non urgent care!
