I'd really like to share our incredibly positive experience with our teenage son's recent NHS care.
My son had a nasty accident in a school PE lesson when he accidentally collided with another pupil. My son continued to his next school lesson, but had to phone home for my partner to collect him as his knee had become so painful. He came home with us for the rest of the day with a nastily swollen knee and in a lot of paint to walk. We treated it with ice and ibuprofen / paracetamol and in the morning as the swelling was still there, we phoned 111 to ask if we could arrange to take him to our local community hospital for an xray. It did take a few minutes to get through on 111 but when we did, the call handler was fantastic - very knowledgeable, great at listening and clearly explained and referred us to Newquay hospital for a booked appointment within the hour for an x-ray. In newquay hospital the treatment was superb - they treated my son and his dad with enormous respect and care and were very thorough, they took the x-ray and made an appointment at Treliske hospital MRI unit for the knee to be precautionary scanned within 1 hour just to check there was nothing being missed by the x-ray. We then took him for his MRI scan at Treliske when again the team were really knowledgeable and thorough scanning him with great care and explaining all the procedure and what they were looking for to both him and his dad. Later that afternoon we had a phone call to our home from Newquay hospital saying that they had looked at the x-ray and would recommend us taking him for an MRI scan, when we explained that he had had a scan, the lady was able to instantly pull up his MRI scan on her screen, the lady then said that she could see the MRI scan and that someone had already logged their comments on scan (which the lady could see), the comments said that the MRI was all clear, the lady also said that in her opinion the scan was all clear and then made a 1 week follow up appointment for him to attend the fracture clinic at Treliske to just check on progress. I am so sorry that I don't have names of the incredible staff and am not knowledgeable enough to even know the roles or names of their departments but I'd really like to let you know how grateful, impressed and res assured we are at the excellent service.
