Yesterday I had a call from Jess to carry out an initial assessment for my personal counselling following my diagnosis and treatment for prostate cancer.
Such a compassionate and caring call. I was put at ease from the beginning.
Asked to explain my cancer journey from the start until now, then many questions which open you up like a flower until everything is there.
Very calm, gentle and reassuring all the way through.
There is no doubt that I need help, the clarity of the information given made me realise that I am not experiencing anything unusual and that with help, guidance and a better understanding of my brain and how it works I hopefully will get control back.
Even just after the call I understood much better what is happening to me.
I'm sure this would not have been achieved without the skill and expertise of the counsellor.
The fact that we have it here in North Devon is amazing.
The fact that many more people are being diagnosed with cancer will only increase the need for this service to be present and certainly will need more experts to help people like me.
Getting early help before the mind sets itself down the wrong path is essential.
Help to switch thought patterns back to positive feelings and having control is a wonderful thing
You have started helping already with one call.
I'm looking forward ( that's a first for me for a long time) to having your help when face to face sessions begin
