"The hospital was clean and the staff put me at ease"

About: NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) University Hospital Wishaw / Dental University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

I had been experiencing severe pain in one of the roots in my mouth for a number of days and attended my dentist to have it removed. The root was removed, I was sent home and told to call 111 if I experienced any problems. I went to bed and woke up the next day with a swollen lip, swollen left side of my face and a swollen eye. I called 111 and was spoke to by the NHS24 dentist. The dentist done an online call and sent me straight to Wishaw General a and e.

I was worried about attending the hospital because of the current pandemic but the hospital was clean and the staff put me at ease. I didn't wait long before I was seen by the triage Nurse who gave me a once over (Not rushed). Because my temperature was really high the Nurse gave me medication to try and bring my temperature down. She then took me straight down to a bed so I could be assessed further by a doctor. The doctor sent me for an x Ray of my  face and lungs. I also had bloods done that confirmed I had a slight infection. I was seen by a lady from the maxillofacial team who prescribed me two different antibiotics.

Thank you NHS24, staff at Wishaw General a and e and Maxillofacial team.

Hi WishawPatient

Thanks for sharing your experience on Care Opinion. It sounds as though you've been through a tough time with your dental issue. I hope the antibiotics are working for you and you are on the road to recovery.

The care you received sounds great with services working together to ensure you received the best possible care and treatment quickly. I can understand you being worried about attending hospital at this time, but from what you have shared, once there, the staff put you at ease which is great to see.

Here at NHS 24 we recognise that dental pain can be hugely debilitating for patients. Recently we have improved our service and now have Dentists working directly with us. This has been a fantastic service improvement for patients. I am pleased you received an online call and were referred for onward care.

I will share your feedback with our dental team so that they can see your positive comments. If there is anything further you wish to share in relation to your contact with NHS 24, then I would be delighted to hear directly from you. You can contact me at patient.experience@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk or by phone on 07814 299914.

I am sure my colleagues within NHS Lanarkshire will be equally delighted with you feedback.

Thanks again for taking the time to get in touch and best wishes.

Shona

Dear WishawPatient

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of attending the Emergency Department at University Hospital, following dental treatment.

I can appreciate your anxieties of having to attend hospital during the current pandemic but was pleased to note that you found the hospital to be clean and that staff treated you quickly, and were able to provide medication for you, following assessment.

Please be assured I will share this post with the staff involved in your care and thanks again for taking the time to post your experience on Care Opinion.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Lesley
