"Your team are brilliant!"

About: Maternity care (Ward 31) / Labour suite maternity

(as the patient),

Fantastic ward, staff and maternity hospital. I felt safe, cared for and extremely happy with my entire experience.

I arrived as an emergency whilst on holiday on the West Coast. Looked after by the midwives from the moment I walked in, to the moment I left. Dr Guptar was brilliant and funny, agreed to let me out the next day if I didn’t show any signs of feeling unwell or the start of labour again (the original reason for arriving, turned out to be false labour pain).

During the night, 3am I awoke to pain. Kept my promise, told the staff. After a few checks it was clear this time it was the real thing! Off to the labour suite, had THE most magnificent midwives there too, Sandi and Lyndsey. Husband arrived in plenty of time (we live 1.5hrs away).

Then Dr Vicky came in with another lovely Dr - I missed his name to my shame. They were both lovely, reassuring and professional. But what was amazing was it felt like there was no hierarchy. It was a team that clearly gels well together.

Then the magnificent Dr Madeline pops in and asks if I need anything, to which I literally ask “epidural!?” She was a miracle worker. Forceps and  episiotomy later and hey presto, baby is here safe and sound.

Dr Vicky kept reassuring me, informing me of everything that was happening and was SO kind. Sandi and Lyndsey were truly magnificent too. When Matt was away, I had THE funniest midwife Julie-Ann who is delightfully brilliant and her care and kindness was much needed at a time I was suddenly alone with a tiny baby (she was premature) and felt very aware - crikey I’m a mum again!

I expressed some colostrum with her brilliant advice. My baby got that and was settled. I went upstairs and was looked after again brilliantly - from the midwives looking after baby whilst I got some sleep (24hrs awake at this point!) to the toast and squash!

ALL the staff (including the students) are incredible. I really felt the need to emphasise how genuinely brilliant your team are. They made me feel safe, happy (the laughs!) and strong. And the care was second to none. Thank you SO much.

Dear CharlotteArtist

Congratulation on the birth of your daughter and for taking the time to provide such lovely feedback at what must have been a concerning time for you.

I am delighted to read you experienced such wonderful care from the maternity and neonatal teams and I will ensure this is passed onto them and they will be delighted to receive this.

I have also noted your comment in regard to the size of the maternity pads and will look into his further.

I hope you and your family are all doing well and wish you all the best for your future together.

Best Wishes

Evelyn
