"The care I received was excellent"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Accident and emergency

(as a service user),

I don't normally write feedback but after praising nurse Astra (I think) and student nurse Emma she suggested I write the feedback on this website and gave me the details, I actually forgot about the feedback until I just found the piece of paper - lucky for them I found it! I have not been in hospital since I had my daughter 22 years ago! So did not know what to expect!

I attended A&E due to feeling unwell, the department was busy as I imagined, however the care I received was excellent, (much better than some stories I have heard).
My pain was managed well, my emotional health was spoken about and considered, and  I was offered food and drinks throughout my stay, despite them both being super busy, rushing here there and everywhere, they made time to sit and understand what had brought me into hospital, taking a genuine interest in me as a person and not just the symptons. I am a carer for my husband, this was taken seriously and actioned.
Astra and all the team were well mannered and approachable, making me feel at ease during my stay, but my goodness, she was busy, one patient, next patient, phone calls, computer, repeat, repeat, working so very hard!
I asked Emma about her journey as a student nurse, she shared heartwarming stories (no names of patients - just areas where she worked and what she liked about them) this took my mind off the pain and the anxiety of what was happening
When I was transferred to the ward, the doctor (Omar) explained where I was going, and why I was being transferred, explaining what will happen once I am on the ward and the communication from all involved was very good.
From a patients perspective, I was laying in bed, watching the comings and goings but what remained throughout was the way in which the doctors and nurses worked together, having the odd giggle and chat, but it shows we are all human.
One little thing - there are so many staff in different colours, could there be a picture in areas saying who is who?
So, here is my feedback - I hope it is ok.
Thank you Queens Medical Centre

This is excellent feedback, thank you so much for sharing your perspective as a patient. I am so pleased to hear that you experienced excellent care at the Emergency Department, and thank you for highlighting the individual staff – Astra, Emma and Omar – who helped you the most. I will share your kind words with the whole team. Your suggestion about helping people to know which staff wear which colour uniform is a great one, we will definitely consider a display to help with this in future.

With best wishes

Clare Mayfield
