"Having a Laryngectomy"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Ear, Nose and Throat

(as a service user),

I had cancer of larynx March 2009 and had radiotherapy all good then in May 2019 it returned  and I had to have my voice box removed. I was very worried and scared not knowing was ahead we were under the care of Mr McCaul ENT consultant and specialist nurse Catherine. We had 8 days before operation and Catherine was our specialist nurse who was there every step of the journey. To have a service as specialist nurse was so essential and so reassuring at this time the staff in Ent 3 south were brilliant and put up with me for 5 and half weeks. Also a mention to Kate specialist nurse speech therapists Alison and Jackie and dietitian Edel .  Two years down the line only 1 hospital admission and whenever there is a problem with the valve Catherine is only a phonecall away. I want to thank each and everyone of you for a great service
