"Cataract operation"

About: County Hospital Louth / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

My appointment time was for 0800 hrs but I found by asking on the day that I was scheduled last on the morning's list and would be ready to go home by 12.30 hrs. I had been informed at pre-op that the whole procedure including recovery would take about 30 minutes!

My wife was waiting in the car park. Luckily we both have mobile phones and I was able to send her home for a few hours.

Having said that , I was treated very well and efficiently by the nurses.

The operation was quick and painless. I was impressed.

With cataracts removed the world is a brighter ,clearer and more colourful place.

Many thanks to the nursing and theater staff. A happy experience.

Dear "active pensioner"

I am really pleased to hear your positive comments and to read that your vision is brighter and clearer. I understand the frustrations with the scheduling around theatre lists and hope with some minor tweaks we can make expectations a little clearer. I will ask the pre-op nurses to be clearer in their explanation of the timings to explain that whilst theatre and recovery time may be as short as 30 minutes a patient may spend all morning (or afternoon) in the department.

Thanks,

Daniel.

Daniel Overton.
