"A&E, Gynaecologists and GP"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Accident & Emergency Crosshouse Hospital / Gynaecology General practices in Ayrshire & Arran

(as a service user),

I attended A& E at around 11pm and I was seen by the doctor on call just and was discharged just after 03: 00 am. On discharged I was told I was referred to Gynaecology and a consultant will call later on the day to arrange for an outpatient clinic appointment. I waited the all day unfortunately I did not receive any phone call.

I phoned the Gynae secretary who was very helpful and lovely on the phone. I explained to her that I was waiting for a consultant phone call unfortunately she couldn’t find any referral or any details of me attending A& E. She advised me to contact my GP.

I called my GP, they could see on the discharge letter that I was referred to Gynae I explained to my GP that it seems like the referral was not done and they said as this was done by an A& E doctor there’s nothing they can do about it.

I called again the Gynae secretary and told her that the GP was able to see that a referral was sent to them. She double checked again but couldn’t find the referral. She then called my GP surgery, I do not know exactly what they talked about.

Later that day I received a call from my GP saying I have been re-referred to Gynea and I was told I was at the back of the waiting list. I spoke to the A& E charge nurse today and explained that the issue that led me to attend A& E is still ongoing, I asked her if I should come back to A& E but she advised to phone my GP instead. I feel very frustrated and unhappy with the care I received.
