"Still waiting "

About: King George Hospital

So this is the state of the healthcare system at King George Hospital and our experience thus far. Child has large cut on eyebrow sustained at after school provision and is collected at 5.45pm NHS 111 recommends talking to a clinician who at roughly 6.30pm says as the cut is on her face and she is only seven years old it should be checked as it may need a stitch or glue and is still bleeding. He books an appointment at the Urgent Care Centre for 8.20pm. We arrive to find a queue at 7.50pm and are seen at reception at 9.10pm. Told to wait and assured we will be called. It is currently 11.25pm and we are still in the waiting room. The cut has stopped bleeding but reception are unable to say when we may be seen. Others are commenting that they have been here for over four hours. Whilst I completely understand that on a Tuesday evening during a time of restrictions things will be challenging and I do not think any individual member of staff is responsible for the system or pressure they are being placed under - someone should take responsibility for the absolute shambles and completely inappropriately named Urgent Care Centre. By the time my daughter will be seen her cut will be healed and face likely scarred as a result of over seven hours (although who knows what the actual time will be) passing between incident and initial help being sought. This is the system and our experience of it.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback, we are so sorry to hear the concerns that you have raised regarding the wait you and your daughter encountered waiting to be seen in the Urgent Care Centre. Unfortunately, this service is not managed by Barking, Havering and Redbridge NHS Trust and is managed by The Partnership of East London Co-operative (PELC). Therefore, your comments will need to be responded to by PELC, they can be contacted on 0208 911 1130 or by email, pelc.feedback@nhs.net. Once again, thank you for taking the time to make us aware of your experience.

Kind Regards

The Patient Advice and Liaison Service
