"Exceptionally rude and unhelpful"

About: Glemsford Surgery

Telephoned on behalf of my elderly father who has fallen, fractured his pelvis and thus missed his second covid vaccination. The receptionist was brusque, rude, continually spoke over me, made it very difficult for me to ask questions and generally behaved as though I was a severe inconvenience to her. I appreciate that staff will be under pressure during the pandemic, but my father is 78, diabetic, unwell and vulnerable. A few moments to recognise that the circumstances are unusual and that getting his second jab is important might have been sensible. Her determination to explain at length and dogmatically that the neither the surgery, or the district nurse will be able to help in this case was time-consuming and un-constructive. As is often the case, the receptionist's attempt to steamroller the call actually prolonged what need only have been a simple, courteous and brief conversation. We are left waiting for someone to contact us. I wonder if/when that will happen. Politeness prevents me from expressing a frank opinion of the bureaucratic arrogance on display. Avoid like the plague and change your GP surgery if remotely possible.
