"The care I received for an endoscopy and colonoscopy"

About: West Cornwall Hospital (Penzance) / Gastroenterology

(as the patient),

Today I had to go to West Cornwall Hospital in Penzance for an endoscopy and colonoscopy. I am 53 years old and have been very fortunate in never really having had a hospital procedure, so I was both apprehensive and tearful about having to have 2 procedures  at the same time.

It was a challenging morning  for me but the team at West Cornwall Hospital were fabulous. I was greeted and taken care of before the procedure  by Amanda (nurse). She went through the pre-procedures thoroughly but sensitively. She was training Nick (care assistant)  at the same time and it was no problem having him there as he was so nice and unobtrusive.

Once I was taken through to the  doctor (Joy) and the 2 nurses, I was  feeling a bit overwhelmed at the beginning but they were so kind and considerate. They brought a lovely sense of normality & humour to the 2 procedures and I was involved the whole way through. They were so professional

My after-care was just as good and Anne (a very experience care assistant, I think ) and Nick took care of me again and it was lovely to see Nick learning from Anne & Amanda who were very supportive of him. . At the end, I was escorted by Amanda back to where my husband was waiting

Dear Tilly G

I agree that coming into a hospital to have a procedure done can make a person apprehensive. It was lovely of you to take the time to write about your experience and am pleased that it was a supportive and caring one. It was also nice to read that the team were mentoring Nick in a kind and supportive way.

Your kind words will be shared with the team and I hope that you well.

Kind regards

Maria
