"Staff need training in compassion. "

About: Diana, Princess Of Wales Hospital

Visited A&E last night with severe chronic pain, the receptionist was so blunt and quite rude. No compassion at all, I did not feel like I was in a safe place. Triaged within an hour, but would not provide me with pain relief. Whilst I was waiting, a gentleman entered who was clearly in a lot of pain, clutching his chest, the receptionist was talking to him so rudely, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing! After 5 hours I saw a doctor who examined me, listened to my heart and lungs and said I’ll prescribe you some codeine. No explanation or investigation into the pain. I left feeling completely let down and quite anxious at the fact I still don’t know what’s causing the pain. In short - staff need training on how to be kind to patients who are clearly in a lot of pain.
