I came across this recently and had been deciding whether or not sharing my story would help. I recently became concerned during my final year at University that I may have undiagnosed ADHD. I was diagnosed with depression at 16, due to various personal issues which I will not go in to here. I have been on a variety of antidepressants to try and tackle this diagnosis and support my symptoms of low mood, problems in day to day aspects, in work and studying e.t.c. However, after trying over six different antidepressants, I began to research my symptoms and it became apparent that more may be going on than just Depression. Unfortunately the waiting list for being diagnosed in Portsmouth under the NHS is almost TWO YEARS! which is disgusting. Being able to self-fund a diagnostic assessment privately, I did this and began treatment with a private psychiatrist, believing that they could then initiate a shared care agreement with the GP and it would save the NHS the bother of having to diagnose, initiate treatment etc. However, I have been told that due to the Local Portsmouth CCG guidance being limited and having no funding, I would not be able to have a shared care agreement between the private psychiatry team & GP for this medication? This makes absolutely no sense. I cannot afford to continue paying the cost of private prescriptions and this medication has been an absolute lifesaver, allowing me to continue working and pursue my career! What do I do? The GPs won't budge, no help from the CCG, on the waiting list for an ADHD service and meanwhile I am stuck trying to scramble the funds to pay several hundred pounds a month for these medications.
