"Better training regarding mental health needed"

About: East Surrey Hospital

I was admitted as an emergency during a Mental health crisis which also required medical treatment couldn’t fault the A&E. Staff were friendly and introduced themselves. However once on the AMU two nurses attitudes toward me were abysmal I was having difficulty communicating and they just kept talking over me and not listening to what I was trying to ask one question was what had happened to my personal belongings ie phone but was told I couldn’t have my stuff until I was discharged

I was sorry to read your feedback regarding your care on AMU, I have fed this back to the Matron to address with the nursing staff on AMU. Your phone should have been made available to you and I am sorry this was not the case.

As a Trust we are currently working on a strategy for the care of patients with mental health needs this does include identifying the training needs for staff and your feedback will certainly be incorporated in this.

Thank you for sharing your positive feedback with regards to your time in the Emergency Department - I have shared this with the Matron. I do hope you are making a good recovery at home.
