"Hospital Stay"

About: Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre / Ward B1

(as a service user),

I called the beatson helpline at the end of March. Staff quickly assessed me and advised to attend AOAU.

Jock and his team were fantastic and quickly calmed my nerves. I had all tests done within an hour of being admitted. Having hearing loss makes it very difficult for me to lip read due to masks.

Jock and his team were brilliant and safely lowered their masks to ensure I understood what was happening at all times.

I was then admitted to ward B1 for 2 nights underwent my urgent MRI and chemotherapy. Again I cannot fault the staff in the ward they were brilliant and again accommodating when it came to my hearing loss and masks.

Being a nurse myself and previously worked in the beatson, its a very busy place and challenging during Covid. However the staff were incredible and always took time to listen to me and made my stay much easier.

Everyone including porters, catering staff, cleaners and all staff at MRI were so friendly. Definitely a credit to the NHS.

Dear jazzqy77,

Thank you for taking the time to post this very kind feedback about the care you had from the team at the Beatson. It was very reassuring to hear that your pathway was smooth from the point of the helpline to admission and transfer.

I can appreciate how worrying a time this must have been for you and I know Jock and the team would have wanted to make you feel safe and at ease from the outset. I know the team have a very person centred approach to everything they do to make all patients feel listened to and involved in decisions about their care and treatment. I am glad to hear they were able to safely continue to communicate with you to accommodate for your hearing loss.

I will share your feedback with the wider team who I know will be grateful to receive your comments. Thank you again for the feedback and I would like to wish you well.

Kind Regards

Elaine Burt
