I just wanted to say thank you very much to all the staff involved in my care during recent surgery. From the moment I walked through the doors I was met by a lovely lady who directed me to my ward. Unfortunately because I had been admitted a day early due to blood complications I ended up in 4 west instead of 4 east, however a helpful student and other staff were on hand to ensure I got to the correct ward.
On the day of the surgery I was quite nervous, being a healthcare worker myself I knew the operation that I was expecting to get and the complications that could arise however the anaesthetic team were great at listening to my concerns and were very reassuring. The surgical team headed by Dr Allam also informed me that they would attempt to take the least invasive approach which would be fantastic for my recovery and at 11 days post op I am so grateful to them that they did. Thank you so much to all the theatre team that were involved during my operation which took longer than anticipated, I know it must have been a very long day for you all.
In recovery I was handed over to Carolyn (I think), who made sure that my family were notified I was out and safe and that my pain was well managed before getting me up to the ward. The next day she even came to check how I was doing, which was great. It sometimes the smallest things that make such a difference.
The staff on the ward (4 east) were amazing, nothing was a bother. At night it was a relatively newly qualified staff nurse Andi who mostly looked after me and admittedly I was a fairly challenging patient due to complications from the surgery but she was attentive, empathetic and compassionate. She sought help when she needed to but was always on hand if I needed her and made the experience of being in hospital away from family so much easier. Both her and Amy, another newly qualified staff nurse who looked after me, are a credit and asset to the team in 4 east. They have obviously been taught well by the more experienced and excellent nurses that I met and names I can remember, Donna, Anna and Lesley.
Of course the nursing team were well supported in the ward by the healthcare workers Anne, Lynn, Beena and Robina (sorry for missing anyone else out but everyone was just so helpful and caring) domestics, ward clerk, physios, porters, etc
The advanced nursing practitioners of Mags and co were great at sorting out the surgical complications and by liaising with the surgical and pain teams. Again I felt that I was being listened to and being well cared for.
All in, although I was in for a major operation, the manner in which I was treated made me feel safe and well cared for. I was always asked for my opinion and everything was explained so well.
Thank you all at the Golden Jubilee.
