"Waiting times"

About: Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (Edinburgh) / Ear, Nose & Throat

(as a parent/guardian),

My little boy hasn't been able to breathe through his nose since he was about 1. He's now 3 and a half and has been on the ENT waiting list for a year and a half. His teeth are now protruding, his lips always cracked and he frequently wakes during the night upset and saying that he "can't breathe". The GP says she's not concerned and won't expedite because it's not urgent. I'm worried sick and so disappointed at the length of this waiting list.

Dear crickethk59,

I am very sorry to hear how upsetting this is for you and your son.

We would like to be able to give you personal advice but this is not appropriate on a public website. Please could you contact our Patient Experience Team with your son's name, date of birth and the concerns you have mentioned here. My colleagues will then be able to investigate his referral and give you more information.

The patient experience team can be contacted on 0131 536 3370, via email at feedback@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk or via their online feedback form: https://www.nhslothian.scot/YourRights/PatientExperienceAndFeedback/Pages/Online-Feedback-Form.aspx These are secure forms of communication and will allow us to write back to you.

Thank you for reaching out to us,

Peter Campbell
