"Incredibly supportive midwives"

About: Maternity care (Ward 31) / Labour suite maternity Royal Alexandra Hospital / Community Maternity Unit

(as the patient),

I just wanted to say thank you and highlight the wonderful care I received from the RAH midwives throughout my pregnancy/labour/postnatal time.

I had an incredibly supportive community midwife in Yvonne who let me talk through my previous labour and listened to my concerns. I do want to mention Lynne from the same team (Johnstone.)

During my labour I had meconium in my waters which meant I couldn’t deliver in the community midwife unit and had to go to labour ward which I had been keen to avoid. However my midwife there (Nicola) encouraged me to make the environment as relaxing as possible. Along with her student (Eliza) I felt really supported during the early stages and able to make safe decisions about my care. Special mention to Eliza who was really great during a bit of a meltdown on my part!

My baby was actually delivered by the next shift (Julie and student Lucy) I really really want to say thanks to them for enabling me to have as natural delivery as possible with no medical intervention (and no tear!)

I can’t put into words how much more positive my experience at RAH was compared to my previous delivery elsewhere and really feel this is down to the experience and competence of the midwives and the attitude of the unit as a whole.

Dear Lexi83

Congratulations on the birth of your baby and for taking the time to provide such positive feedback.

It is always lovely to hear the difference midwives can make to a woman's experience and how important it is to ensure we listen to women and treat everyone with care and compassion.

I will ensure your post is shared with the midwifery team, especially those you have mentioned and know they will be delighted to receive this.

Wishing you and your family all the best for your future together.

Best Wishes

Evelyn Frame

Chief Midwife, NHS GGC
