I had fantastic antenatal care from my midwife Sheena and felt supported in my decision to have my baby at Peterhead Maternity Unit as I was classed as low risk. I contacted Peterhead when my waters broke and was given good advice and left feeling in control and that things would progress on their own. My contractions then started a few hours later and I then phoned again to advise of the situation and was told to come in. I was seen very quickly and assessed and told that I could go into the delivery suite. The room was fantastic and felt very homely. Compared to my previous birth experience, all the staff at Peterhead couldn’t do enough for me and my Husband. I was left to it with the reassurance that assistance was available if needed.
After a short time, I went into the birth pool and the midwifes who were there to deliver the baby arrived (Josie and student midwife Kerry). They were very encouraging and supportive. I had my daughter within half an hour of being in the birth pool and found it very calming and would definitely recommend to others.
After the birth, we stayed for a few hours and were then able to go home. It was up to me whether I wanted to stay for longer or felt ready for home but I felt that going home was the best decision for me and that I could phone for advice if needed.
I highly recommend Peterhead Maternity Unit and feel very lucky that this time I had such a great experience during pregnancy and giving birth thanks to Sheena, Josie and Kerry 😀
