"My Mother’s end of life care"

About: Banbridge / District Nursing

(as a relative),

My Mother sadly passed away at home a few weeks ago, however we were so relieved when her District Nurse facilitated a safe discharge to community to enable her care to be carried out at home instead of hospital with current restrictions in place.

Her District Nurse was Sister Beattie who visited to support and direct us along the way. Each and everyone of our family commented how they could see how much she loves her job.

From ordering of equipment, home visits to supporting us until the end, Sister Beattie worked so hard and showed such love and devotion to our mother whilst carrying out her job. She is indeed a very special person.

Dear Jessie, my name is Sharon McCloskey and I am the bereavement co-ordinator in the Southern Trust. I am so sorry that your mother has died.

Thank you for taking the time to post your experience and for your reflections on the role Sister Beattie played in this critical time for your mother and for you. That sense of relief comes through so clearly when your mother was transferred to home. I can see how important that was to you and to your mother as it enabled you to be together which, sadly, is more difficult in hospital during this pandemic.

Your writing conveys not only Sr Beattie's knowledge and skill, but also her personal qualities and compassion as she supported your mother and you in her final days. This is so heartening to read and what we would hope for everyone in the final days of their life. I anticipate that this will be of help as you grieve your mother's death.

Please do not hesitate to contact the bereavement team if we can be of any assistance in the days ahead. We can be contacted through our helpline 028 37 567990 or through Craigavon Area Hospital switchboard.

Dear Jessy

I'm very sorry to hear about your Mother's passing. Thank you for taking the time to send your thoughts in relation to our District Nursing service; especially at a time that I can only imagine must be very difficult for you and your family.

It is wonderful to read such positive sentiments in relation to Sr Beattie's professionalism and the comfort she brought to your Mother and her family during her final days. I will ensure that Sr Beattie receives this feedback.

Take care and best wishes.

Charlene
