"Giving birth to my son"

About: Borders General Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

36hour labour ending in emergency caesarean.  The service from the hospital staff from the pre-natal ward to labour ward, theatre then post-natal ward was outstanding.  We felt well informed at all times during the process, nothing was too much trouble despite the birth itself not going to plan.

Felt very reassured by staff in theatre during my caesarean in particular.
Partner was able to stay for the duration of my labour and allowed access to the ward during the day.
Expert help with breastfeeding from midwifes, student midwifes and maternity care assistants in ward 16, especially Joan & Catriona.
Special mention to Mo, community midwife (Peebles) who was spot on with all her observations during my pregnancy.  Advised of large baby size, performed successfully sweep and advised re prenatal harvest of colostrum.

Thank you Lockdown first time mum for such lovely feedback.

I'm sorry to hear things didn't go according to plan and having an emergency section - this can be very traumatic for you and your partner. We aim to provide person-centered care and to hear you felt well informed and reassured throughout demonstrates we have achieved this in the delivery of your care.

I will be sure to pass this on to the staff.

I hope you are settling into life as a new family and enjoying your new baby!

Kind Regards

Claire
