I caught Covid on a cruise ship in West Indies, March 2020. My symptoms did not manifest until I arrived home in Cornwall.
I had a continuous cough & temperature & was advised by 111 to go to Bodmin Hospital.
I drove there at 11.30pm on March 31st & was immediately blue lighted to Treliske Hospital in Truro. My condition had rapidly worsened, the next thing I remember was waking up after 41 days in an induced coma.
I had multiple organ failure, pneumonia & various other ailments.
The Covid left me with severe breathing difficulties, unable to walk, disorientation, panic attacks & many other debilitating symptoms.
My recovery has been slow & frustrating but I am getting there. After a year I can now walk up to 3 miles & have just started to ride my bicycle around our village. Also I have just returned to some part time work for the 1st time in a year.
I have been left with Joint Pain especially in my feet, breathing issues when I extend myself (ie. walking up hills/stairs) & brain fatigue (dark moods, forgetfulness & short fuse.)
The doctors have said it might be up to two years before my recovery peaks.
I am on this page to firstly offer hope to fellow patients but also to thank the ICU team at Treliske for undoubtably saving my life. I have had a team of aftercare specialists that have encouraged me every step of the way (especially the Occupational Therapy lady) , who have understood my moods & kept me on the right road back .
To you all my heartfelt thanks.
