About: Devon Road Surgery

I do not normally leave reviews but I had a frustrating experience on the phone the other day. I have complex health issues and had recent lung surgery for cancer I was asked by guys to speak to my GP about prescribing something to loosen my mucus to avoid chest infections because I had a chest infection shortly after surgery. Guys intend to write to my GP requesting this but said it would be helpful to speak to my GP to avoid delays but I was unable to get past the receptionist as I was told this would not be possible without proof and why I was being prescribed this medication I replied that the GP would understand if I could speak to him to be told quite rudely in my opinion he had no appointments anyway. Very frustrating experience and as of yet no medication to help me putting my well being at risk I am well aware of the pressures of the present climate but all I needed was a 2 minute conversation. The GP should make the decision not the receptionist

Thank you for your feedback. Apologies for not responding sooner but there have been issues with this website so I was unable to reply to you before now. I can appreciate your frustration at wanting to get started on your newly prescribed medication but we cannot act on purely the patient's say-so as this would represent a significant clinical safety risk. Unfortunately when the GP's appointments are fully booked as was the case when you called, the receptionist cannot override this system. You may feel it was simply a 2-minute conversation but in reality, a consultation would always take at least 10-minutes, as GP needs to look at your notes, get a history from you/find out what the issue is, potential prescribe and add this to the system, then write up the consultation notes. On this occasion, there was not an appointment available that day. If you simply wanted to relay a message through to the doctor without having to necessarily make an appointment or navigate the phone queues etc, I would suggest you register for doctorlink - please visit our website for details.
