I delivered my baby boy in December after quite a straightforward pregnancy. I was induced for post dates.
The midwifery staff in the induction bay, delivery suite and postnatal ward could not be faulted. I had a slightly difficult induction with it lasting two days before going into labour due to issues with my baby's heartbeat. In normal times this alone would have been difficult enough but during a pandemic without my husband being allowed in was hard going.
The midwives who cared for me were lovely and kind. Consoling me when I got upset. The obstetric team were fantastic, keeping me informed. The different midwives that looked after me, my husband and my baby in labour again were hard to fault. Each one went above and beyond. All friendly, helpful and understanding - even if it was just when they were in covering for a break time. Even the domestic staff were brilliant.
Once on the postnatal ward and prior to discharge my baby was checked by the paediatric team. An issue arose and the paediatric team were very professional, putting myself at ease and ensuring follow up was prompt. On the ward there was a good team atmosphere, with the specialist midwives working out of their comfort zone to help the postnatal staff.
My little boy arrived safely and I felt well cared for and safe in a vulnerable time, for that I will always be grateful for the staff I met along the way.
