"Social work-SDS budget"

About: Cumbernauld Locality Support Service (Disability) / Community support (disability)

(as a carer),

I feel so angry and exhausted with social work, my sons SDS budget started in  2016 and has been late every year since, with every excuse under the sun, with its being late every year I’m losing out in months now with budget due in May this year that’s nearly a year out of sync with their incompetence,   his budget for last year started  May and I have a bank statement to prove this, I have been pushing them for weeks to start the process with no joy, and they are now telling me today the budget doesn’t start till  June, when I have proof of bank statement it’s  May, yet again budget getting pushed back when original budget started on August, this is nearly a full year out of sync and all the time my son losing out, I don’t know what else to do to sort this, as they just don’t care or listen

I am sorry you feel left out regarding your son being reviewed for SDS budget. The budget will not have stopped even when the year is up. There have been so many changes in the last year in how we carry out reviews due to the Pandemic However, I am happy to discuss this with you and discuss your son's review.

can you please contact 01236 638700 and ask to speak to Community care admin - leave your name and contact number with them and I will call you back to discuss how we can support you

Sam Cairns thank you but my son is only 13

Catherine Graham Your saying the budget doesn't stop, but the rate stays the same regards to the new budget being increased and planned for so, the extra hours that were planned for respite is a lot more money than the last budget. Therefore, PA not getting paid and emergency cash having to be given, so no the budget doesn't stop but there's not enough to cover new planned budget. You mention there's been a lot of changes in the last year due to pandemic but that's no excuse, 6 years my sons been receiving SDS budget and every single year it has been late with Pa's not being paid or short or being paid late with cash, nobody has explained to me why every year this is late, and I still don't have an explanation

Hello Tigerjr97

There is also an advocacy service for children and young people that your son might want to consider using. It's called Who Cares? Scotland and the manager is Caroline Richardson. Caroline can be contacted at her email address which is: CRichardson@whocaresscotland.org. I hope that this is helpful to you.

Best regards

Patricia

Response posted on behalf of Scott Barrie, Education and Families Manager

Dear tigerjr97

I am genuinely sorry to hear that you’ve been experiencing problems with your son’s SDS budget. I am really keen to discuss how we can go about improving this situation for you both. If you could email me with your telephone number, that would be really helpful; barries@northlan.gov.uk we can find time to talk about this in more detail.

There are also carer support organisations that you might consider contacting: They are - Lanarkshire Carers: info@lanarkshirecarerscentre.org.uk and North Lanarkshire Carers Together: enquiries@carerstogether.org

Both organisations will be able to provide you with support and information that you might find beneficial.

I really look forward to hearing from you.

Scott Barrie

Education and Families Manager
